Go read the whole interview and be inspired!! =)

1.TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF.

My name is Jenevieve Rhea T. Bue, 20  years old. A graduating BS-Nursing student of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University. I have one brother who’s older than me and is a Registered Nurse already. I am an aspiring fashion stylist & makeup artist who happens to be in the medical field practising nursing.

2. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING?

Nursing was never an option to me because my heart has always been with IT or Fashion Designing. My mom pushed me to take nursing instead because for the practical reason that nursing is “in demand” now-a-days. I wasn’t really expecting myself to love and be “in” to nursing. But as years went by, I have finally learned how to love my course. Money was the last thing on my mind. I don’t even see myself being rich by working abroad through nursing. The people I have cared for the past years made me love nursing. Every patient that I have helped makes me wanna work hard to be the best nurse that I can be.Every smile on their faces gives me the feeling of serving them more without even getting paid.

3. TELL US YOUR MOST UNFORGETABLE EXPERIENCE AS A NURSING STUDENT.

My most unforgettable experience as a nursing student was the time where I was having my OR duty and on the first day the teacher was scolding me and even slapped my hands while the operation was going on because of my mistakes on instrumentation. I even remembered blogging about it on my personal blog because I felt so bad about it.

But on the second day, I have managed to prove to my clinical instructor that I know what I am doing and I am going to fix my mistakes. So while we were having our operation on explore laparotomy, I was surprised to see that I had 2 mayo stands which means I got more instruments to serve this time. So while the surgeon was asking for an intestinal clamp, my clinical instructor was trying to reach over to my 1st mayo stand while in fact the instrument was found on the second mayo stand. I kinda pushed/slapped (something like that) her hands this time and got the right instrument and gave it correctly to the surgeon. She was so surprised that she didn’t say a word and she just sat beside me and watched me. On that particular time, I felt so confident that finally I have proven myself. And on the following day, my instructor left me on my own… I did a lot of circulating and I felt so free moving around the operating room without any hesitations.

4.WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AREA IN THE HOSPITAL AND WHY?

Definitely the OPERATING ROOM because that’s the place where I learned to be responsible.

I also enjoy the operations we have with different cases like craniotomy, apendectomy etc… But I’m still hoping to see a heart operation too.

5.HOW DID NURSING HELPED YOU IN BECOMING WHO YOU ARE RIGHT NOW?

Nursing helped me how to care for other people, how to understand people and even be concerned of my own health too. Way back in highschool, I have never cared for my body (e.g. I don’t drink lots of water, eat fresh fruits and vegetables) but because of the lessons that I learned from nursing, I knew how water, fruits and vegetables is important in our health. And with regards to my communication with other people, I learned how to be more therapeutic and how to handle people with different attitude. And with this learnings, I have applied this to my blogging hobby too. I have learned how to understand people (especially haters) and how to approach them.

6. HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF 10 YEARS FROM NOW?

I would probably be working in the creative indutry though. :( But I would still love to be a dialysis/OR nurse 10 years from now.

7. ASIDE FROM BEING A STUDENT NURSE, WHAT ARE THE OTHER THINGS YOU LOVE TO DO?

I love to blog, photography and anything related to fashion (e.g. styling, makeup, designing) I guess nurses are so VERSATILE and talented! :)

8. ANY ADVICE TO THOSE WHO WANT TO TAKE BS NURSING?

Uhmmm.. If you’d take up nursing, makes sure that’s what your heart wants you to do or at least you like it too. Because you will be caring other people and your actions would reflect your heart. And when you have your duties, just make sure that you read/study ahead so you won’t get scolded like what happened to me. eek! :))

Academically, do not memorize things your read on the book. You have to understand it and try to imagine things like it’s an “if & then” situation and believe me… you would surely get high scores.

Goodluck to all nurses and future nurses!

 LIST OF NURSES ON TUMBLR

Featured Nurse of The Week: MISS BUBBLEBUM

Kath is a 23 years old Registered Nurse from Cabanatuan City blogging at bubblebum.tumblr.com. I’ve know this girl for years now (through blogging actually) and through her blogs (from wordpress to tumblr) I’ve seen how creative she is not just in the field of Nursing but even on fashion, photography and web design!

So let’s go back to the original topic. Go read the whole interview and learn a lot! =)

1. Tell us something about yourself!

Hi! I’m Nurse Kath at your service ;) Not really good with introductions so prepare to get bored :P I am a 23-year old E.R. Nurse at Immaculate Conception Medical Center of Central Luzon, Inc here in our humble town, Cabanatuan City. I have been an E.R. nurse for 1 year, but I’ve been practicing my profession for almost three years now. :) I graduated at Wesleyan University-Philippines, batch 2008.

I have a love and hate relationship with my profession. Most of the time you’ll hear me ranting about how difficult and stressful my job is, almost on a daily basis. But hey, I am still here trying to save lives. No matter how much this job makes me depress at times, I still find myself praying to God for guidance, for him to blessed me to be a better nurse, to better be of service to those in need. Sounds too heroic yet this is the truth.

2. Why did you chose Nursing?

Unlike others, I wasn’t forced to take this course. It was my choice. Well I kind of actually went with the flow. The time I was about to graduate from highschool all I was hearing about was how in demand nursing was, especially abroad. And me, being a naive 16-year old, too innocent to probe more about what I really wanted in life, took nursing along with my friends. In my four years in college I have doubted myself. I still doubt myself until now, honestly. But when I took the board I prayed to God, if this wasn’t really meant for me He wouldn’t give it to me. But the fact that he did gave it, meant He had faith that I have what it takes. It will be difficult. It has always been difficult yet it was also very fulfilling.

3. Tell us your most unforgettable experience as a Nurse.

Oh my Gahd! I have tons! The moments I would never forget are those times I made little mistakes. Ever since I entered this profession, people kept saying we couldn’t afford to make mistakes because we are dealing with lives. Yet we are human, and no matter how much we try we are still bound to be wrong or to forget some things. Mistake happens for us to learn, for us to be better. But ofcourse, we shouldn’t make it a habit and that we should always be careful that we are not risking lives with the mistakes that we have made.

4. Your favorite area in the hospital and why?

Emergency Room, of course :D At first, I was scared to be in the E.R.. E.R. Nurses are the frontlines, and you see I have self-esteem issues. I don’t think I was born to be a leader, I was always the follower. Being in this area, meant making good decisions and making it fast. I thought that wasn’t me (well, I still think that way haha). But I have come to love it, - the adrenaline rush and that feeling when you have finally stabilized a patient. Somehow for a moment, you’d feel like a hero :P

5. How did Nursing helped you in becoming who you are right now?

Like what I’ve said, I have self-esteem issues. When I became a staff nurse I thought I couldn’t do it. But I took a deep breathe and got the courage. I may not be the best nurse, but I always try to be good in what I do. Being in this field improved my decision-making, gave me the courage to face my fears and to trust myself more.

6. What is your favorite Nursing quote or saying?

“When I think about all the patients and their loved ones that I have worked with over the years, I know most of them don’t remember me nor I them. But I do know that I gave a little piece of myself to each of them and they to me and those threads make up the beautiful tapestry in my mind that is my career in nursing.” ~Donna Wilk Cardillo, A Daybook for Beginning Nurses

7. How do you see yourself 10 years from now?

I’d be 33 by then. Hmm I would probably be in another country, perhaps the Middle East or in Canada. Still a nurse, earning millions, married and with two kids :)) Haha A girl can dream XD

8. Aside from being a Nurse, what are the other things you want to do?

I want to travel the world! I wanna see the world and take lots of pictures. I want to go to Paris and learn french :D I want to bake and open up my own chic bakery-slash-coffe-shop. I want to unleash my super girly side, dress up and take more vanity photos :P Haha well that’s me… I’m a dreamer :D

 LIST OF NURSES ON TUMBLR

Watch out for my next FEATURED NURSE OF THE WEEK!

She’s a 23 years old Registered Nurse! =)

but for now, go visit PAUU of Misspauuparazzi’s interview here.

Featured Nurse of The Week: MISSPAUUPARAZZI

Hey guys! as promised, I’ll be featuring awesome Nurses/Nursing students here on my blog. So.. for my first feature, she is aNURSING STUDENTblogging at MISSPAUUPARAZZI.tumblr.com read everything and be inspired.

1.TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF.

Ain’t really good with introductions so bear with me LOL Hi my name is Pauu, 19y/o. I’m a Senior Nursing Student from Makati Medical Center – College of Nursing. Currently one semester away from College Graduation YAY! But what makes me different to other Nursing Students, being an American Citizen in my case, I’ll be off to US right after graduation to review and take NCLEX right away so I have to double my efforts, concentrate and do what’s best for me. All of us really have to work hard, remember that “Nothing in life worth having comes easy”.

2. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING?

I’ve been into this profession because it has been my childhood dream to become one of those successful health care practitioners competent enough to render care to those who are in need. No influences attached –but yeah I have RN Aunties abroad and they’re all very successful.

3. TELL US YOUR MOST UNFORGETABLE EXPERIENCE AS A NURSING STUDENT.

August 2011 we had our clinical duty at Cavinti, Laguna for 3 weeks/ 3 days a week. Nine days of intense isolation from the urban world. No gadgets and not much of electric devices. From that experience, I learned to be more independent and to deal with complete strangers that eventually became the people who treated us as part of their humble family. It’s not about just “teaching”, it’s about learning to live with them while improving their way of life.

4.WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AREA IN THE HOSPITAL AND WHY?

Operating Room (MMC), it is where different cases come in every now and then. I like it because it’s where I can select and handle instruments to the surgeon needed for the operation while maintaining overall nursing care. Unlike the Emergency Room, O.R. procedures come with schedule and not the “ULTRA FAST CRITICAL THINKING EMERGENT SITUATIONS” LOL I still have to work on my semi “panic state” tho the E.R. is my next favourite area.

5.HOW DID NURSING HELPED YOU IN BECOMING WHO YOU ARE RIGHT NOW?

Nursing helped me to become morally upright, intellectually competent and service oriented. Just to witness the start of life (newborn) and the end of it (death), I realized how short life can possibly be. I can’t imagine myself from four years ago giving as this much importance to life. Health is Wealth as they always say, and I couldn’t agree more.

6. HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF 10 YEARS FROM NOW?

Misspauuparazzi as 29 years old? I can imagine myself as an expert Registered Nurse (Operating, Emergency or Military Nurse) serving in a certain International Health Care Institution by heart earning big ass $$$ having the time of my life with a happy family living in our dream house. Yeah that’s pretty much one of my long term goals LOL

7. ASIDE FROM BEING A STUDENT NURSE, WHAT ARE THE OTHER THINGS YOU LOVE TO DO?

I’m actually into sports, really. I play basketball and volleyball, count me in to some sassy cheerdancers from our batch too LOL screw that haha but srsly. My family and I love to eat as much as to travel (both local and international) And what goes with me every little time are just plain dressing up moments and bonding with my camera.

8. ANY ADVICE TO THOSE WHO WANT TO TAKE BS NURSING?

Practically speaking, I don’t really recommend them to apply for BSN due to the countless unemployed Registered Nurses all over the country. BUT regardless to that, if you really want to become a successful nurse someday, go for it. As much as they say that school doesn’t matter, let’s not deny because it really is! UP, UST, ADMU and DLSU graduates –they ring a bell to employers actually. On the other hand, just like me LOL keep your grades steady. Aim high, avoid failures and keep your records clean. Most of all, balance your IQ and EQ- they can either make or break your performance. You need those to be able to get a job. Don’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.
